Pool filter couldn't take the pressure

You may ask - WTF is this image? Well, it's the snapped remains of the pressure relief valve atop my pool filter. The part that screws in is still IN the filter, while the rest of it is resting on it's side. Funny story, not funny HA-HA mind you, apparently it was spraying water all day Monday into my neighbors back yard and he left an informative note on my front door. When I saw it, it was still attached - but loose. I thought that it wasn't screwed in all the way, I mean - it screwed with minimal effort. So when I turned it to tighten it (following the arrows on top to close it) it snapped off.
I've never heard of these things breaking off. Now I'm trying to get a hold of the pool company that put in the solar heating system and the new pump/filter combo - I'm presuming that it's still under warranty and all - I mean - it's brand spanking new. I just hope this doesn't turn into a mini battle - I just want it fixed.
